The Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) has made an appeal to the authorities to recommence vehicle imports.

Chairman of the Association, Shantha Gamage told Ada Derana that the request was made during a discussion with the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe held yesterday (15).

Stating that a request was made to recommence the importation of vehicles, he said that, however, they did not receive a favourable response.

Shantha Gamage revealed that the Central Bank Governor had, however, vowed to look at the possibility of providing concessions by reducing the loan interest rates for the local second-hand vehicle market.

The Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka Chairman pointed out that such a move will strengthen the local second-hand vehicle market. (NewsWire)
